KENINGAU: A total of 2,400 people in the parliamentary constituencies of Keningau, Tenom and Pensiangan will receive a monthly allowance of RM300 from the Welfare Services Department.

The recipients were selected from a group of 3,841 registered during the first series of an operation called “Projek Cari” in the three areas to detect and record the elderly, disabled, single mothers and those generally in need of assistance.

Yesterday, the member of parliament for Pensiangan Tan Sri Joseph Kurup who is also the Deputy Minister of Natural Resource and Environment distributed the monthly allowance to 323 people at the Perkasa Hotel here. Today, another 408 will receive the same at the Nabawan multi-purpose hall.

Kurup urged community leaders to keep a lookout for the needy and to inform the Welfare Services Department so they can be given help too.

Those present at the ceremony were Sook assemblyman, Datuk Ellron Angin, Keningau assistant district officer, George Kanavu and Keningau Welfare Officer, Ali Hassan Kahar.
