NABAWAN : A senior citizen here claimed to have been registered under the Social Welfare Department’s ‘Projek Cari’ exercise but was not listed as one of the 408 who were recently given a RM300 monthly cash assistance.
The complainant,Andupan Tingalan,79, also claimed that she was never given any explanation about the matter.
She suspected however that the reason could be the fact that she has children who could support her.
But Andupan argued that they have their own families to take care.
“If I’m considered unqualified to receive the assistance, then disqualify the other senior citizens too for we all share similar status,” she challenged.
Andupan’s dissapointment was shared by 52-year-old single mother,Emis Maliom, who alleged to have known of other younger single mothers like her who received the aid.
“Why wasn’t I given for I too have dependents like them,” she said.
Under the ‘Projeck Cari’ exercise, the government aims to reach out to less privileged such as, among others, poor families who need financial assistance, bed-ridden senior citizens and disabled persons.
It was said that 3,814 individuals had been registered in Keningau, Pensiangan and Tenom out of which 2,400 of them were listed to receive RM300 assistance a month – MARUTIN ANSIUNG.
