Free parking in Keningau as concession to company withdrawn
Keningau: Parking in town will be free temporarily while the District Council, which has withdrawn concession rights from a particular company to impose parking fees, deliberate on a decision regarding the matter.
Presenting appointment letters to 13 Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) chairmen here Monday, Bingkor Assemblyman Justin Guka, referring to complaints by vehicle owners including government staff that they have been issued summonses to appear in court in September for owing the concessionaire between RM7,000 and RM20,000 in unpaid parking fees, gave an assurance that the matter has more or less been resolved.
On another public complaint that community leaders including JKKK chairmen, Kapitan Cina and village heads would request a payment of between RM12 and RM15 when their signatures were required to certify documents, he said the practice was illegal and against the law.
“The Government should take firm action against the culprits,” he said.
